Fed Up - Sound Artist

A commission from Newcastle University's Oral History Unit and Collective to create a piece of Sound Art in response to their interviews with volunteers and clients at the West End Foodbank. The piece will be displayed in community centres and schools as extracts from the overall commission, with plans for a permanent installation of the full extended piece on Newcastle University Campus.

The piece is made completely out of interview recordings.

Interviews recorded by the Oral History Unit and Collective.

joey - Sound Designer

These are example cues taken from throughout the performance, in order to give an impression of the sonic world of the play.

The script regularly references punk music from the '80s and '90s, and so the entire sound design is created from recorded vinyl tracks referenced onstage. Although they are manipulated and abstracted throughout, they create a holistic sonic register. There are a few exceptions however, most notably the recording of a stream at the end of the performance - a refreshing change of pace from the punk tracks!

Trolley Boy - Sound Designer

These example cues are taken from the final moments of the play that lead to it's dramatic conclusion. This track contains extracts and remixes of an original theme tune composed by Roma Yagnik.

Reviewed by the British Theatre Guide as being "a beautifully scored and impeccably timed soundtrack (composer Roma Yagnik and sound designer Matthew Tuckey) adds so much, almost subliminally, to the piece."

Directed by Ali Pritchard

OCULAR - Sound Designer and Composer

Invert is the final experiment in a series of experiments known as OCULAR.  This video was used to promote the project.

The artist wore goggles which inverted his vision for the duration of the experiment. James Harrison improvised and created new musical material live over the internet for 6 hours.

Smoke & Mirrors - Sound Designer

This soundscape was created for Enchanted Parks 2018 for the finale hall of mirrors created by sculptor artist Molly Barrett. This soundscape uses the experimental application of convolution reverbs, long tail reverbs and delay effects, and musical material composed by Roma Yagnik for Enchanted Parks.

"Peter Chevalier, an illusionist, gathers a crowd and walks down the pathway towards the towers, through a series of mirrors. He moves in curious ways across the reflective surfaces, in unexpected triplicate and through candle lit haze. And then gone! Things can come and go in this place, moving between solid particles and light energy, disappearing as quickly as they appear in multiple… Is this where his wife was lost? A simple illusion (designed to baffle the untrained eye) gone wrong." - Molly Barrett.

Character Portrait - Recording, Mixing and Mastering Engineer

Experimental musician, James Harrison, recorded three live video sessions with different supporting musicians over two days. Please visit his project youtube channel for further details on the musicians featured in these performances.
